Keylor Navas to Newell's: Messi as a key in the negotiation

The goalkeeper Keylor Navas, three-time Champions League champion, reportedly agreed to join Newell's Old Boys, an Argentine team, with the unexpected influence of Lionel Messi. Navas' agent, Luciano Emilio, mentioned in a video that Newell's was recommended by Messi, with whom he shared a team at Paris Saint-Germain, and it was crucial in the goalkeeper's decision to choose that option over other offers.

According to reports, Messi not only spoke about Newell's club in his conversations with Navas, but also advised him to live in "Kentucky," a famous private country club in the city, where Messi has a house and stays with his family during their holidays in Argentina.

The negotiations between Navas and Newell's were conducted in secret for about 20 days and were on the verge of being finalized. This agreement is considered one of the surprises of the transfer market, akin to Gonzalo Montiel's return to River Plate or the possible arrival of Ander Herrera at Boca Juniors.
